1. What day does my garbage get picked up?

Beginning January 1, 2019 your residential waste & recycling will be picked up for Aledo residents by Jackson Disposal, Inc.  For the north half of Hwy 17, your garbage and recycling will be picked up on Wednesday morning.  For the south half of Hwy 17, your garbage will be picked up on Thursday but your recycling will be on Wednesday.  As a reminder, please have your garbage and recycling set out by 4:00 a.m.

Jackson Disposal will observe New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.  During those individual weeks, you may experience a delay in garbage pick-up depending on the holiday date. 

2. What items can I recycle with Jackson Disposal?

Paper - Acceptable paper products would include: magazines, junk mail, copy paper, envelopes, newspaper, shredded paper, books hard or soft bound.  Paper can also be bagged to keep it dry or tied with string.  No Paper Plates.  

Cardboard - Corrugated cardboard, cereal boxes, beverage containers, packing and shipping boxes, paper egg cartons, soap containers, shoeboxes, and Kleenex boxes.  No wax cardboard - such as milk containers, juice boxes.  Please remove any packing peanuts or Styrofoam from the boxes.

Miscellaneous Metals - such as coat hangers, bicycles, pots, pans, lawn chairs.  

Cans - Aluminum, tin, or bi-metal cans are all accepted.  Labels do not have to be removed.  Aerosol cans are accepted also.  

Plastics - look for the recycling symbols on the bottles.  Symbols with the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7 inside.  #1 plastics (pet) - such as water bottles or soda bottles - clear plastic.  #2 plastics - (HDPE) - such as milk jugs, laundry detergent bottles, cloudy or dark colored plastic.  #3, #4, #5 and #7 plastics - plastic packaging, food containers.

Jackson’s does not accept #6 plastic - which is Styrofoam.  Plastic bags or zip lock, or bread bags.  No Glass!

3. How do I properly dispose of yard waste?

You can utilize the yard waste disposal site located at the South Lagoon between the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  This service is for Aledo residents only and will accept grass clippings, leaves, tree limbs, and landscape waste.  No treated lumber or garbage bags allowed. Violators will be prosecuted and you can report violators at 309-582-5194.  

4. How do I apply for TIF money?

5. What can I do to prevent identity theft?

You can stop in City Hall and fill-out an Identity Theft sheet and present your State issued driver's license.

6. What days can I burn my leaves?

Burning of such yard waste (leaves, grass or other vegetation) shall be permitted on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday only.  It is unlawful for any person to burn any leaves or other vegetation upon any city street, city sidewalk or in that portion of the right-of-way three feet from the edge of the street pavement.  All such fires shall be attended at all times by a person of 18 years of age or older.  Such fires shall be permitted during daylight hours only and shall not be placed within 20 feet of adjacent residences.
