The City of Aledo received a grant from the state for the Rebuild Illinois Downtown and Main Streets Capital Program to make improvements and create a new market area near Central Park. The City is working on the first phase of the Community Improvements Plan. This phase will enhance the area of Main Street to Central Park and College Avenue to 3rd Avenue. This project is centered around providing a market plaza for hosting events, providing more walkability to businesses with a new pedestrian spine, and developing a community gathering point.
Site improvements are anticipated to include level sidewalks and access to building fronts, decorative and inviting streets, walking paths and landscaping, and improved overhead lighting while maintaining the character of the historic downtown district. This project will connect to the improvements that were a part of a city-sponsored project along North College Avenue and Main Street and provide a link for future improvements to the east of this area. Construction is anticipated to begin in early 2024.
