The 911 Memorial was erected by the Aledo Police Benevolent Association to honor the emergency personnel who gave their lives in the service of others on September 11, 2001.The victims of the attacks on the World Trade Center, in New York City, killed 2,977 victims. It was the worst terrorist attack on American soil. Among the dead were 60 police officers, 343 fire fighters and EMTs and 8 paramedics from private emergency medical service providers.
Seven Mercer County residents who died as a result of their military service since 9/11 are honored on the back wall of the 9/11 Memorial. The Association wanted to recognize the ultimate sacrifice of these heroic individuals who died during the Wars following the terror attacks on the United States.
