Inspections

Projects Requiring Inspections

Inspections are required for all permit projects. The following is a partial list of required inspections. A complete list of inspection requirements is provided on or with each permit:

New 1 & 2 Family Residences & Additions

  • Pre-pour driveway, sidewalks, foundations
  • Rough carpentry
  • Underground drain, plumbing, electrical before covering same
  • Rough Plumbing
  • Rough Electrical

  • Final electrical
  • Final HVAC
  • Final plumbing
  • Certificate of Occupancy

New Multi-Family, Commercial & Industrial Buildings & Additions

  • Alternative inspection schedule may be agreed to for large projects
  • Elevator, detection and suppression tests are required and shall be witnessed
  • Same as for 1 and 2 family residences

Building Rehabilitation & Fire Repairs

  • All electrical, plumbing, HVAC and carpentry shall be inspected prior to covering same
  • Final occupancy inspection

Change In Use Group

  • Rough Inspections: all electrical, plumbing, HVAC and carpentry shall be inspected prior to covering
  • Elevator, detection and suppression tests are required and shall be witnessed
  • Final occupancy inspection

Residential Detached Garages & Sheds

  • Pre-pour inspection of foundation and slab after forms are installed, prior to pour
  • Final inspection after structure is complete, but before interior walls are covered

Fences

  • Post hole inspection after all post holes are dug, before concrete is poured
  • Final Inspection after fence is completed

Swimming Pools

  • Pre-inspection after pool diameter is staked or flagged
  • Underground electrical (if applicable) 
  • Final inspection after pool walls and electrical are completed, but prior to filling pool

Roofing

  • Rough: call 24 hour notice prior to tear off
  • Final: call for Final inspection after roof has been completed

Concrete, Asphalt (Streets, Sidewalks, Service Walks, Parking Lots, etc.)

  • Pre-pour Inspection when forms/aggregate have been installed
  • Call for final after work is completed

General Plumbing, Electrical & HVAC

  • Rough: after materials, systems, etc. are installed, but prior to covering same
  • Final: after work has been completed
