The City of Aledo utilizes the services of a code hearing officer, also called an adjudicator, to hear local ordinance cases. The code hearing officer conducts hearings on such violations as building and property maintenance code infractions, as well as parking tickets, curfew violations and other ordinances.
The City policy for building and property maintenance code violations is to attempt voluntary compliance, without the use of citations, wherever possible. In those rare instances where cooperation cannot be obtained, a ticket may be issued. The hearing officer has the authority to impose a fine of up to $750 per day for each day the violation occurs. Defendants will have the opportunity to plead their case and may be represented by legal counsel if they so chose.
The City believes that the use of citations and code hearings will represent a very small part of our overall code compliance program, but that it is a very important tool when necessary.
